| La storia di questo antico porto è ricca e affascinante: a ridosso delle strutture che caratterizzavano le sue banchine trovarono sede i consolati delle Repubbliche Marinare e nei secoli successivi le rappresentanze diplomatiche e commerciali di Francia, Inghilterra, Spagna e Olanda, furono prova di quali interessi economici e culturali gestisse questo importante porto, anello di congiunzione tra la vecchia Europa e l'Africa. | | Chorography - The wide basin of the outer water port is bounded West by the Lazzaretto reef and by the Colombaia outer-quay, 240 mt. long, docked and supplied with ballards, for the head mooring of the stand-by and cruise ships; North by the breakwater that delimits the fishing harbour and by the waterfront - Lungomare Regina Elena - which allows the mooring of little leisure boats; East by the Sanità wharf. The PORT is shaped as a bay, direction East-Wes, is about 1.000 mt. long with a width that goes from 255 mt., between the two entrance lights, to 450 mt. for its lenght East of the port's mouth. It is delimited North by Garibaldi, Dogana, Marinella, ex Sommergibili and slipways docks; East by the Isolella dock and by the Dry Dock; South by Ronciglio dock; West by the Sanità warf. | Corografia - L'ampio bacino dell'avanporto è limitato a W dalla scogliera del Lazzaretto e dal molo foraneo della Colombaia, lungo m. 240, con banchine munite di bitte, per l'ormeggio di punta delle navi in attesa e da crociera; a N dal frangiflutti che delimita il porto peschereccio e dalla banchina - Lungomare Regina Elena - che consente l'ormeggio a piccole imbarcazioni da diporto; a E dal pontile della Sanità. Il PORTO ha una forma di una sacca con direzione E - W, è lungo circa 1.000 m. con una larghezza che varia da 255 m., tra i due fanali d'entrata e 450 m. per tutta la lunghezza a levante dell'imboccatura. Esso è delimitato a N dalle banchine Garibaldi, Dogana, Marinella, ex Sommergibili e scali di alaggio; ad E dalla banchina Isolella e Bacino di Carenaggio; a S dalla banchina di Ronciglio; a W dal pontile Sanità. | |
